The SAS System is an integrated suite of software for enterprise-wide information delivery. The functionality of the system is built around the four data-driven tasks common to virtually any application -- data access, data management, data analysis and data presentation. Applications of the SAS System include executive information systems; data entry, retrieval, and management; report writing and graphics; statistical and mathematical analysis; business planning, forecasting, and decision support; operations research and project management; statistical quality improvement; computer performance evaluation; and applications development.

Licensing Information:Two licensing programs are available through the SAS Software for Microcomputers site license. Enrollment in any program grants each participant "only the right to use" SAS software for the duration of the licensing period. Each licensing program is maintained and administered by Software Licensing Services, beginning on September 1st (of the current year) and ending August 31st of the following year.
Enrollment into any program can occur at anytime throughout the licensing period, HOWEVER all licensing programs will terminate on August 31st and all SAS software will stop functioning soon after this date. The renewal period for the next licensing program period will start four (4) weeks prior to September 1st. The two SAS licensing programs available through the site license are described below:
- Department Licensing Program: provides licenses for use in UF departments.
This software can only be used by Faculty, staff and students on computer systems owned or controlled by the
university. Computers under the control of the university include
those owned or leased by UF and those loaned to UF as part of a grant.
The Northeast Regional Data Center (NERDC) is not covered by this license.
Non-UF users of NERDC services must take out their own licenses through
the SAS Institute. Also, a server (or concurrent) license is NOT available under the current SAS Education Analytic Suite Agreement.
- Employee Home-Use Agreement: is an extension of the Department Licensing
Program. For each department license owned by a UF department, the chair,
director, or dean (of that department) may designate one employee permission
to use one copy of the SAS software at home. Each
Employee Home-Use agreement is directly tied to the ownership of the
department license. The Employee Home-Use agreement and its associated
department license do not have to be registered to the same person.
The Employee Home-Use agreement expires: 1) if the employee loses their
employment with the university, 2) if the department license (that is
bound to the Home-Use agreement) is not renewed, or 3) if the chair, director or dean
rescinds permission to use the software.
- Student Home-Use Program: This new pilot program with the SAS Institute enables Software Licensing Services to license the "use of SAS software" to UF students for HOME-USE ONLY. This program has a limited number of licenses and enrollment is granted on a first-come first-serve basis. The program is restricted to UF students registered to attend classes during the current academic year. The student must be registered at the time of enrollment. UF employees are NOT allowed to enroll into this program. The software CANNOT be used on university owned computers. To enroll in the SAS Student Home Use Program, students must visit the Technology Hub within the University Bookstore and Welcome Center located on Museum Road attached to Reitz Union.
